Scanning Options using Charter Security Suite®

This tutorial will guide you through using the Charter SecuritySuite virus scan
options. Use the menu links below to navigate through the document.

Scan Options

Perform a Virus and Spyware Scan

Depending on your computer, the scan may take a couple of minutes to complete. If malware is found, the Security Suite will attempt to clean your computer.  Once completed, you have an option to view a scan summary report.

To perform a Virus and Spyware scan:

  1. On the Status tab, select Scan to perform a virus and spyware scan.
  2. Click the Show Report button to view. Click Close to exit.

Perform a Full Computer Scan

A Full Computer Scan will scan all of your files and folders for viruses, spyware, riskware and other suspicious items.
The amount of time it takes to complete the full scan will depend in your computer. If malware is found, the Security Suite will attempt to clean your computer.  Once completed, you have an option to view a scan summary report.

To perform a full computer scan:

  1.  Click the Advanced Scan button on the Tools tab and select Full Computer Scan from the drop-down menu.
  2. Click the Show Report button to view. Click Close to exit.

Choose What to Scan

If you are concerned about a certain area on your computer, you can choose what to scan and Security Suite will scan the requested files/folders for viruses, spyware, riskware and other suspicious items.

The amount of time it takes to complete the scan will depend in your computer. If malware is found, the Security Suite will attempt to clean your computer.  Once completed, you have an option to view a scan summary report.

To choose what files/folders to scan:

  1. Click the Advanced Scan button on the Tools tab and select Full Computer Scan from the drop-down menu.
  2. Choose the file you would like to scan and click OK.
  3. Click the Show Report button to view. Click Close to exit.

Rootkit Scan

If you are concerned about a certain type of malware, the Cleanup Tool will run the AntiBot Scanner. Visit AntiBot Scanner for detailed support.

The amount of time it takes to complete the scan will depend in your computer. If malware is found, the Security Suite will attempt to clean your computer.  Once completed, you have an option to view a scan summary report.

To choose what files/folders to scan:

  1. Select Cleanup Tool on the tools tab and select Start to begin scanning.
  2. Select Close when finished.

Manual Scanning Options

You can adjust how the Security Suite handles a virus, but it is recommended that you allow the Security Suite to clean the file. Click OK when finished.

Scheduling a Scan

The Security Suite can be set to scan your computer at regular intervals.

To schedule a scan:

  1. Click the Settings button on the Status tab.
  2. Select Scheduled Scanning.
  3. Click the empty box next to Turn On Scheduled Scanning. Select when you want the virus scan to run - on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
  4. Adjust when the scan should start and select either Start time or After computer is not used for: options.
  5. Use the arrows to adjust the time frame and click OK when finished.

Verify Your Database Versions, Definitions and Latest Update Dates
